Safari near Cape Town – Sanbona
After a short but magnificent stay at Babylonstoren in the Cape Winelands we continued our trip to Sanbona Wildlife Reserve.
Sanbona is the best safari destination near Cape Town, it is only a three hour drive and the reserve offers a proper safari experience in a large game reserve with free roaming animals, including the big five even though the leopards are not easy to find.
Sanbona offers its guest a choice of 3 luxury safari lodges and an explorer camp. The explorer camp is specialized in walking safaris and ideal to combine with a stay at one of the luxury lodges.
As we were travelling with children we stayed at Gondwana which is the family lodge at Sanbona. This is a great option for families looking for a malaria free safari close to Cape Town. The lodge is really catered for families travelling with children and the rangers and staff are amazing with children.
Children over the age of 5 are allowed on game drives, and our five year old daughter Emilie was in her element. Often she finds it difficult to sit still for more than 5 minutes but when she was on game drive she was completely fascinated and paid full attention to the game ranger, well most of the time.
The only time that she got a bit upset was when she was not allowed to track the cheetahs with us on foot. Emilie could not understand why she had to stay in the vehicle with a game ranger whilst the rest of us had all the fun.
We spent 2 nights at Sanbona and we were treated like royalty. The entire experience from the game drives, the boat ride on the large dam to the food and accommodation was amazing. A safari at Sanbona is truly an amazing luxury safari for the entire family.
