Location: Timbavati Game Reserve

Motswari lodge is built in a traditional African safari style and although bigger than many other lodges it has the privacy and exclusivity of a top safari lodge.

Motswari was one of the first private game lodges to open in South Africa over 30 years ago. History is most definitely a trademark at the lodge and guests can enjoy reading about the history of Motswari and the Timbavati and look at some extraordinary pictures from the early days. The managers, Steve and Kathy and all the staff are very professional and friendly and do a wonderful job at welcoming the guests to this wonderful and very charming lodge.

The lodge has 15 spacious and luxurious en-suite bungalows with private verandas, a conference facility and a library room all for the use of the guests. The perfect place to relax and unwind is by the pool set in the rocks overlooking the waterhole or in the covered veranda with thatch roof where there are arm chairs and a bar. Breakfast and lunch are also served on the covered veranda where guests can watch the animals coming for a drink of water at the waterhole only 100m away.

“During the game drives the rangers of the different lodges are in contact with one another by radio to report on different animal sightings. The rangers use a coded language so that we can’t understand what they are talking about but once the ranger told us to hold on tight we knew that we were on our way to something very exciting. Amazing, suddenly we were 3 meters away from a beautiful male lion resting in the plains as the sun was setting.” -  Adam
