Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge

Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge is with out a doubt the most unique and different safari lodge we have ever visited. The whole lodge is built to blend in with nature, the walls are made from mud, grass and river sand mixed with cement and the thatch roofs have been covered to resemble termite mounts. There is no art on the walls rather the art is in the nature, the walls and in every piece of furniture that has been carved from wood, stone and natural products, the chairs, tables and sun loungers all made to look like different animals and insects.

The ultimate environmentally friendly lodge, none of the wood was cut but rather salvaged by the designer after the 2000 floods. Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge is for a particular type of traveller, it does not have the warmth and homely feel of the other Sabi Sabi lodges but its magnificence is in the minimalist décor. The open lounge, bar and dining room all lead out directly onto the plains. The pool is secluded under a skylight roof and there are lots of water features and a zen garden much like a wellness retreat.

There are 12 free standing rondavel suites with thatch roofs all decorated the same in earthy grey colours and lots of wood furniture. The rooms are very spacious, with high ceilings and skylight windows to maximise natural light, there are no paintings on the walls and no carpets keeping with the overall futuristic style. The bathrooms are lovely and have double basins, lovely bath tub, separate toilet and an indoor and outdoor shower on a wooden deck with private plunge pool. Set quite apart each room is very private and those guests not wanting to walk to their rooms can be driven in one of the golf carts.

For the ultimate luxury experience guests can stay in the Amber suite (200m²) and have their own ranger and vehicle as well as a private chef who will prepare dinner in the suite if requested. Guests can choose to be completely apart from all the other guests as there is a private entrance to the suite and you are picked up and dropped off at your suite by your ranger. The Amber suite is grand and has a separate lounge with full entertainment area as well as a small fitted kitchen. The décor is minimalist and futuristic with few carpets and paintings. The bedroom is very nice with light colours, open fire place and open plan bathroom that has an indoor and outdoor shower next to the plunge pool.

General Information:
There is a spa with four treatment rooms as well as a small gym.
Earth lodge boasts a lovely big wine cellar where guests can do wine tasting and even have dinner.
The lodge is not fenced in so wild animals can wonder into the lodge.
There is a small computer room with internet connection and a lovely cosy library room with a selection of books, board games and TV/DVD.
There is a curio shop.
Earth Lodge only takes children older than 12 years unless the whole lodge is rented to one group.

- Open Land Rover safaris by day and at night to see Africa’s big game accompanied by qualified rangers and Shangaan trackers.

- A fine selection of sundowner drinks during your evening safari as well as return transfers from the Sabi Sabi Airstrip.

Providing there is exclusivity of the lodge with family and/or friends, children may be allowed and the following rates will apply:

·         2 Years and younger: Stay free of charge in a cot.

·         3 - 5 Years: Sharing with 1 or 2 adults pay ZAR750-00 per child per night.

·         6 - 12 Years: Sharing with 1 or 2 adults pay ZAR1300-00 per child per night.

Children occupying their own room will pay the full adult rate for a maximum of 1 child

(If 4 children sharing the remaining 3 will pay the applicable children's rates).

Little Bush Camp can accommodate 1 family room with a maximum of 1 child per room.

Children 13 years and older are considered adults.

All children's rates quoted are nett and non-commissionable.
