Rattray’s on MalaMala has all the makings of a unique safari lodge, exclusive and very luxurious yet retaining a genuine safari atmosphere. The lodge was first opened in August 2005 and is a lovely small lodge built in a lavish colonial style with a very romantic feel.

The main area is intimate, the lounge with fire place and bar lead onto a lovely wooden deck overlooking the longes main pool as well as the river. The views are fantastic from the wraparound veranda.

All the suites (280m²) have an open plan bedroom and living area beautifully decorated in an African colonial style and big French windows opening onto the wraparound veranda. There is a large four poster bed, a writing desk with a laptop and internet connection and TV/DVD but these are fitted into the cupboard so guests can choose if they want to make use of these. As with all suites at MalaMala, there is a ‘his and hers’ bathroom, both beautifully decorated and spacious with freestanding bath as well as separate shower. For cold winter mornings the bathrooms also have under-floor heating. The rooms are all air-conditioned as it can get very hot in the Lowveld.

The crème de la crème are the big private wraparound verandas with outside shower and heated plunge pools the perfect place to relax after a game drive and watch game walking along the riverbed.
