Arathusa Safari Lodge is an owner-operated lodge occupying some 868 hectares in the northern sector of Sabi Sands Game Reserve in Kruger National Park. It encompasses 2,5 million unfenced hectares of South African Bushveld. The Big Five (lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo), and various antelope roam at will – as they have done for centuries.
There are no fences. No tarred roads. No traffic. No canned entertainment. There’s only an open Land Rover traversing dirt tracks, winding among trees, surrounded by a bounty of birds and animals going about their daily lives. Speed limits are imposed only by passing animals! The Sabi Sand Game Reserve offers of the best quality game viewing in the world.
Arathusa Safari Lodge borders to Simbambili Game Lodge, Djuma Bush Lodge and Elephant Plains Game Lodge and is situated 7 km from Mala Mala Main Lodge.
The lodge has standard and luxury suites, though all accommodation can be termed luxury. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, verandas, air conditioning and telephones. Rooms are decorated in warm, natural tones and are simply but elegantly furnished. The 4 luxury suites are located a little further from the main camp and also have a private plunge pool and separate lounge area. There are no televisions in the rooms - the emphasis is on the location, the fabulous views and wildlife.
The main camp has a large living area with views of the large waterhole and attendant game. The main materials used for the buildings are wood and thatch, which blend into the environment. There is an infinity pool, also overlooking the waterhole and a traditional open air boma with a camp fire, often used for alfresco dinners. Food is a highlight at Arathusa, whether it is the plentiful buffet breakfast or cooked breakfast if preferred, delicious lunch or 3-course dinner. The chef uses locally sourced fruit, vegetable, meat and poultry to produce mouth-watering dishes. These are complemented by a fine selection of South African wines.
Two game drives go out every day. On the very early morning drive you are served refreshments under a thorn tree and on the sunset drive, drinks and snacks. You will view the animals face to face – in their natural habitat. You are accompanied by a ranger who knows the bush like the palm of his hand. His expert knowledge of the fauna and flora makes the experience that much more enriching. A bush walk rounds off the intimate experience that is Arathusa Safari Lodge.
