The malaria free Amakhala Game Reserve is situated 70km east of Port Elizabeth making it an ideal start or finish to any Garden Route trip. The nature reserve is approximately 7000 hectares and until 2000 it was still farmland, primarily farming dairy and pineapples. It is home to the Big Five as well as a rich variety of antelopes and bird life. However, the lions of which there are only 2 are in a separate enclosure.
