Cape Point via Simons Town
A day-trip to Cape Point is definitely worth your while when visiting Cape Town. On the way there, travel along the scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive and stop in Simon’s Town to see the Jackass Penguins mingling with the summer bathers on Boulders Beach. Simon’s Town is a lovely little town and still has a very busy harbour where some of the best fish can be eaten at Bertha’s, and a local favorite, The Salty Sea Dog.
It takes about an hour to get from Cape Town to Simon’s Town, and another scenic hour to reach Cape Point. Cape Point is a nature reserve and there is an entry fee of R60 per person. Once inside, you have many routes to choose from, and can even rent a bicycle and cycle around the reserve.
There is a fair bit of walking to be done at Cape Point. However, if you’d prefer a more relaxed visit, you can take the funicular to the top and then simply walk out to the famous point of the peninsula. Here, it is said that the Atlantic Ocean meets the Indian Ocean. A great place for lunch is the restaurant at Cape Point, where you can enjoy great seafood and stunning views of the ocean.
