De Oude Kraal

De Oude Kraal is a beautiful Free State farm that has been owned by the same family for 120 years. De Oude Kraal is 15 minutes off the N1 highway that goes between Cape Town and Johannesburg and here guests can really enjoy the peace and quiet of the Free State. 

The beautiful country house and garden exude an old world charm that fits perfectly in the surroundings of this working farm. Luxury is very much in the service, hospitality and food. Get a true feel for the great life of farming and join the Tractor Sundowner Ride around the estate, feel the fresh air and embrace the open fields while watching jumping springbok at play nearby. If you have time in the morning, take a walk or horse ride around the farm.

Rooms at De Oude Kraal
All ten garden rooms are separate from the main house and are very private as the indigenous garden grows beautifully around them. There are three room categories, standard, luxury and executive, all furnished differently with en-suite bathrooms with shower or bath or both shower and bath. All rooms offer modern amenities such as TV, tea and coffee facilities, air conditioning, fan and fireplace.

Sleep comes easy and you hear the peaceful surrounding even over the light sound of the air conditioning. The Original farm building now houses the 4 standard rooms, the old ox wagon room, the old storage room, the old office for the foreman and the old stable. The four Standard rooms are very simple, not so spacious and some beds are rather small but the rooms still have a warm country feel and are complemented by a spacious bathroom and very cosy character décor. The two luxury rooms are spacious and decorated with a true African touch and also have their own little patio.

The four executive rooms are very spacious, have under floor heating and lovely views of the farm. Lovely features make the executive rooms something to remember, the outdoor and indoor showers, the bath tub sunk into rock and a head board which is actually an indigenous olive tree growing freely in the room.

Breakfast is served from 07.30 to 09.00 and guests will enjoy a full hot country breakfast, lovely selection of fruit and preserves, yoghurt and porridge and a delicious variety of home made breads and scones. Afternoon tea is served between 15.30-18.00 and guests are offered tea, coffee or drinks from the bar and a large selection of home made cakes.
Dinner is served at 19.30 on the beautiful terrace looking at the indigenous garden or if guests want a romantic, more private dinner alone then the in-house wine cellar can be accommodated for a lovely candle-lit dinner. Dinner is out of this world! Delicious, farm style food served in a home made and personal way that leaves the guest wondering what magic is happening in the kitchen. Presentation is first class and the pre-set menu has a total of 5-courses. If you manage the encore, enjoy coffee and cheese on the veranda or at the bar which is open until late. Dinner is not included in the rate but is very reasonable.

General Information:
Pigeon clay shooting, horse riding and walking trails around the farm can be arranged.
The perfect over-night stop half-way between Cape Town and the Lowveld.
De Oude Kraal has conference facilities for 30 people.
The standard room is not very spacious and we would recommend that guests take a luxury or executive room as the price difference is small.
De Oude Kraal has a newly built spa for the ones wanting to spoil themselves.
