Rothman Manor was built in 1834 and was converted into a guest house 11 years ago when the present owners fell in love with this area. The two original houses have been renovated and are National Monuments. The third building was built in 2003 and has three of the bedrooms.
The main house has a lovely warm feel and is typical of a Cape Dutch manor house. There is a lounge and reading room and a small dining room used for breakfast in the winter and in the summer breakfast is served under the shade of a big old oak tree in the lovely patio.
It is hard to believe as you look at the guest house from the street that Rothman Manor is an estate with 3 ½ hectares. There is a lovely dam and look out spot with a heated Jacuzzi from where guests can watch the game below. There are Black Springbok and Zebra on the estate and a large bird life. The whole setting is very peaceful and there are several private outside spots for guests to relax without disturbing each other.
In the middle of the lovely garden and close to three of the rooms is the pool which is 11 meters long and is a solar-heated salt water pool.
“We arrived at Rothman Manor late afternoon and received such a warm welcome from Andreas. We were recommended a nice restaurant for dinner that night and the following morning had a delicious breakfast made by Franziska.” - Alexandra
Rooms at Rothman Manor
There are six rooms in total all decorated in a similar style with an African feel typical of a Cape Dutch manor house. The four luxury rooms are comfortable in size and have an open plan lounge and nice bathrooms. There is also a “cosy bedroom” which is smaller and ideal for a guest travelling alone or for older children. Then there is an upstairs penthouse with a spacious lounge, dining area, small kitchenette and balcony. The bedroom and bathroom are also big and have high ceilings. The penthouse has been decorated in a fun retro meets African chic decor. Below the penthouse are two of the luxury suites and these are ideal for families or couples travelling together as they share the same entrance and a nice big lounge with the rooms either side of the lounge.
The rooms are separate with three rooms in one of the historic houses next to the pool and the penthouse and remaining two rooms are in the newer building. All the rooms have the usual amenities such as tea and coffee facilities, mini-bar, safe, air-conditioning, Sat-TV with German channels and the bathrooms have under-floor heating.
