Jan Harmsgat Country House

The guest house is situated on an historic farm, established in 1723. Jan Harmsgat is a large farm and guest can enjoy lovely long walks around the farm.  A lot of the food served at the guest house comes straight from the farm.
 
There is a wonderful country feel that extends to all the areas at Jan Harmsgat. Small and intimate guests can expect tranquillity and friendly service. The farm is beautiful and the gardens are stunning. Jan Harmsgat Country House also has a lovely pool where guest can relax after a day of wine tasting on the nearby wine farms.

Jan Harmsgat Country House is a 2 hour drive from Cape Town, on a working farm in the scenic Klein Karoo winelands region of South Africa. The towns of Robertson, Montagu, and McGregor are within close proximity and Cape Agulhas (the southern tip of Africa) is an easy 1 hour drive away.

There are two luxury and 4 standard rooms at Jan Harmsgat and are all decorated in a warm country feel.

The two luxury rooms are set apart from the main house. The largest luxury room is has a lovely open plan layout, high ceilings and thatch roof, lovely spacious bedroom with modern décor. The bathroom is open plan and has a separate shower and bath. This room is also used as the family cottage as there is a sofa bed in the lounge. The room also has TV and DVD, air conditioning, ceiling fan and under-floor heating. The second luxury room is the most private room. This is a lovely spacious room with a big bathroom that has black and white chequered floors and more of a country feel.

The four smaller standard rooms are all in one building with two rooms on the ground floor and two rooms upstairs. The 2 upstairs rooms are more like loft rooms and have smaller beds, thatch roof, lower ceilings with ceiling fans and less natural light. There is a real cosy country feel in the décor and look of the rooms which are quite similar in size but differ in layout. All the rooms have Victorian baths with a hand shower only but room 4 has the bath in the room and separate toilet.

All the rooms have tea and coffee facilities, TV, safe and hairdryers.

Jan Harmsgat serves a delectable 4 course set menu that is definitely worth tasting at least once. Most of the products are straight from the farm.
