The Alphen Hotel is a lovely option for guests wanting to experience tranquil Winelands accommodation only 15 minutes drive from Cape Town city centre.
The Alphen Hotel is situated in the heart of the Constantia Winelands and is an old elegant Cape Dutch Manor House with a lot of history. Built in 1657 as a fruit and vegetable farm it later became a wine estate and more recently a hotel that maintains all the wonderful characteristics like high ceilings with exposed wooden beams and large lounges, lovely and elegant antique furniture and big fire places in the lounges. So much history is illustrated through out the hotel, old portraits from the families that lived at Alphen adorn the walls and the large elegant furniture tells a story of a place that is still a home to all that work here.
The Manor House and main building is where guests will find the lovely restaurant housed in the original dining room. There are also the large lounges with fire places, a boardroom and also the breakfast room. Adjacent to the Manor House is the popular Boer n’ Brit Pub with a lovely wooden bar counter, 2 flat screen TVs and big fire place, a lovely atmosphere at the end of the afternoon when local residents and business people meet to have an after work drink.
The surroundings are lovely and quiet with big manicured lawns on either side of the large pool that is privately located behind the hotel and away from the main public areas. There is a vegetable and herb garden, the local produce which is used in the restaurant and pub menus.
The Alphen hotel has both a fine dining restaurant Cloete’s and the Boer n’ Brit Pub open for lunch and dinner to guests and the public. Guests can sit inside in the original Manor House dining room or in the cosy pub and on a lovely warm day there is plenty of outside seating with views of the lovely hotel buildings.
“We came to The Alphen Hotel on a Tuesday evening after a busy start to the week and relaxed at once on arrival at this lovely setting and genuine hotel. The service is five star and so friendly, we felt very much at home. What a wonderful way to unwind.” – Alexandra
Rooms at The Alphen Hotel
The rooms are spread out in 3 buildings, the original Manor House has 3 luxury rooms, the remaining 7 luxury rooms are in an adjacent Georgian looking building and the 11 superior rooms are in the newest building. The main difference between the two category rooms is the décor which is more modern in the superior rooms. Some of the superior rooms have small balconies and the rooms are more modern in décor and finishes and also have his and hers bathroom one with shower and the other with a bath. All the rooms are lovely and spacious and have plenty of furniture like writing tables, arm chairs, side tables but the rooms do not feel cluttered rather there is a homely and warm feel. The three luxury rooms in the main manor house are decorated in a more old fashioned style with four poster beds and flower fabrics which suits the original building’s look.
