Erinvale Golf Club is a beautiful golf course in Somerset West in the Cape Winelands, roughly 40 minutes from Cape Town. The golf course was designed by famous South African golfer Gary Player, and according to the latest ranking in Golf Digest, the course is ranked as the 18th best golf course in South Africa. The South African Open has been played twice at Erinvale as well as the World Cup of Golf. It is therefore a prime choice for a golf vacation package or golf holiday to the Western Cape.
The beautiful Erinvale golf course is adjacent to the renowned Vergelegen wine estate. Thus, it’s a great course to include in a golf vacation package that also visits the region’s best wine farms. The views from Erinvale over the Helderberg Mountains are superb, and offer a dramatic backdrop to one’s game.
The first nine holes at Erinvale golf course are relatively flat, whilst the last 9 holes are further up the mountainside and as a result are hillier. The last 9 holes at Erinvale can be quite strenuous to walk, especially on a hot summer’s day, so a golf cart is recommended when playing here. From the last 9 holes, you’ll enjoy fantastic views of False Bay.
The greens at Erinvale are large and fast and, on many holes, protected by deep pot bunkers. Thus, it is important to be careful when playing onto the green.
